Armani Amani Gioko Crowned African MX65 Motocross Champion in Namibia

In the dusty, adrenaline-soaked world of African motocross, a 14-year-old from Nairobi has just made history. Armani Amani Gioko won the African MX65 Motocross Championship title in Namibia over the weekend — Kenya's first African champion in the discipline since the early 2000s.

Gioko, who trains at the Red Hill Motorsport Complex in Nairobi and has been racing competitively since the age of nine, dominated the weekend's rounds with a consistency that belied his youth, finishing first or second in all four motos before clinching the overall title with a race to spare.

"I cannot believe it. I have dreamed about this since I was six years old watching YouTube videos of motocross riders," Gioko told Infinity254 Media by phone from Namibia, his voice still shaking with excitement. "I want to thank my parents, my coach and everyone at Red Hill. This is for Kenya."

The victory is significant not just for Gioko personally but for Kenyan motorsport broadly. Kenya has produced strong riders at club level for years — the East African Safari Rally retains a dedicated domestic following — but African continental titles have been rare, and international recognition for Kenyan motocross is almost non-existent.

Motorsport Kenya chairperson Phineas Kimathi said Gioko's win would inspire a new generation. "We have talent. What we need is more investment in facilities and scholarships so that talent doesn't remain undiscovered," he said, noting that Gioko's training has been largely self-funded by his family.

Already, European junior scouts have reportedly made contact with the Gioko family after video of his championship-winning rides circulated widely on social media. If his development continues on the current trajectory, Africa's youngest motocross champion may have a much bigger stage in his future.
